Since September 11, 2001, Immigrant issues in general have been invalidly linked to terrorist and security concerns. In December 2002, the FBI reported a 1600% increase in hate crimes in the U.S., many against immigrant communities. We seek to strengthen the values that have made the Heartland a welcoming place and extend the same hospitality to today’s newcomers.
